1 Peter 2:9-10 (New International Version)
9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Do you know your heritage? Perhaps there are Native Americans in your lineage--or you may have Scottish blood. Knowing you're part of a larger family gives you a sense of place in the history of the world, letting you know you're not just the new kid on the block. You may not know your human heritage, but you can know your spiritual heritage. Peter, a Jew, reminded all the believers in his church--regardless of their race-that because they belonged to Christ, they were a part of God's people and members of God's kingdom. This is your spiritual heritage. Being a Christian isn't just about knowing Jesus. It's about being a part of what God is doing in all of us all over the world.
How does it feel to know you're a part of a larger spiritual kingdom?
How should this knowledge change the way you live as a believer?
